I Was Dissolved.

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Yeah, I was.

Don’t worry, I’ll explain.

A while back, I posted this. In short, I wrote about how my friend Geno DiMaria and I had went into a partnership LLC together, and were wanting to take it full time in Charleston, South Carolina.

So, this is what’s been going on lately. I think it started a few months ago, in the back of our minds… But anyway, by the time I arrived here in Charleston mid-January, we were sure that we didn’t want to be in a partnership together. Unknown to each other, we had been both thinking along the same lines.

For one thing, we want to keep our friendship relationship strong. We’ve known each other only two and a half years, but have grown to be close friends (I have 1086 emails from him).

Another thing was the fact that being in a partnership together means that we wouldn’t be free to do whatever and go wherever God leads us to go.

And there’s also the fact that business partnerships aren’t exactly the most Biblical way to do things. Both partners are forced to compromise their own visions, have their names attached to anything and everything done under the partnership, and share any consequences for bad choices made.

So in short, I’m being dissolved. We signed the form tonight, and will be sending it off tomorrow, probably!

We’re still doing work together. God has given us some paying projects to work on right now, so I feel that this is where I need to be (at least for right now; He could move me next week or next year, whenever and wherever He wants). We’re now free to be able to do things, to pursue the individual visions that God has given each of us, etc. We’re both at peace with this decision, and are thankful that God led us in this direction!

The moral of this story: before jumping into anything in life too quickly, seek God’s direction!

The Move

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Word has it that I’m moving to South Carolina.

I’m chuckling to myself a bit as I write this, because every time I mention to someone the possibility of a move, next thing I know, everyone thinks it’s set in stone. Maybe I just don’t do a good job of explaining things to people. While there is a good possibility of such a move, there are some qualifiers…

Earlier this summer, I spent nearly two months living with my dear friends, the DiMaria family, helping with various post-production roles on Bros. Geno DiMaria (who is nineteen, as I am) and I have grown quite close in the almost-two years that we’ve known each other (has it really only been that long?). This June, we began a Limited Liability Corporation together, Block One Studios, LLC.

During the time I was there, we picked up a couple video jobs, including a wedding and some real-estate videos. Since I left (in the middle of July), they’ve continued running the business, which is starting to get more business. For instance, in November, we’ll be shooting a conference for Life Compass International.

Our desire is to take Block One full time. Currently, Geno holds a part-time job at a Sears store, and I’m still working part-time at Rainbow Resource Center.

So to get back to the topic of moving: we’d like to go into video full time sometime this fall. This would mean me needing to be in South Carolina. I’ve considered different options, including an all-out change of residency… For now, however, I’m thinking that it would make it simpler to keep my residency here at home, and living in SC for two to three months at a time.

Of course, all these plans are tentative; only my Lord knows what’s actually going to happen. Geno and I are seeking Him in this — it’s not a light decision to quit part-time jobs to go into a business in a field you’re a student in, much less when you’re 19 years old and have never run a legal business before.

I can say this for sure: if I end up moving, I’m going to miss my family (I’ve only spent the last 19 years with them, ya know!)… I’ll miss the quiet environment of living out in the middle of cornfields.

Geno and I both appreciate your prayers for us as we strive to “seek first the Kingdom of God!”

My First eBay Sale!

Friday, June 27th, 2008

I recently became a user on eBay so I can sell some of the stuff that I have no use for anymore… first to be posted? Two computer games! It was a new and exciting thing to have the experience of an eBay auction… answering potential buyer questions, counting down the days and hours, and, today being the last day, refreshing my web browser every couple minutes.

There was one bid in the last hour, then nothing…. I was starting to think that the two games I was selling were going to go for the incredible price of $0.99 (together they’re worth around $20). It came down to the last minute. I refreshed my web browser; the eBay countdown thingamajigger said that there was less than a minute left. I waited until I knew that the auction had ended (about thirty seconds), refreshed, and was astounded that there had been a bid within the last thirty to forty seconds, bringing the winning bid to a grand total of $3.32 (plus $3.00 shipping)!

Somebody ought to make eBay auctioning an Olympic sport…
