Here’s part two of the pictures from a trip my Dad, brother, and I took down south a couple weekends ago. After the submarine veteran’s memorial in King’s Bay, Georgia, we drove up to Monck’s Corner, South Carolina for a short visit with some dear friends of ours, the DiMarias. Geno DiMaria, who is close to my age, and I have grown close over the past year (we began emailing each other in the October of 2007); we’re both young aspiring filmmakers, so we have a lot in common besides being of the same mind in spiritual things.

Amongst other things, we had a little short film family premiere, and visited Patriot’s Point in Mt. Pleasant. Patriot’s Point is the location of a naval museum of sorts. It’s the home of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV10), the submarine USS Clamagore, the destroyer USS Laffey, and the Coast Guard cutter USS Ingham. My dad and brother and I have had the privilege of getting to “camp out” for a couple nights on the Yorktown when we were in Cub Scouts (a looooong time ago).

Anyway, without any further ado, the pictures (oh, I might note that if you click on a picture, you’ll be able to see the full size version of it… at least the full size web version…):

I kinda liked the texture of the grass growing near the shore.

There was some gorgeous evening sunlight outside!

The light source… See Genesis 1:16-18 [show] And God made the two great lights--the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night--and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. (ESV)

Radar. It’s good for spotting ships when you can’t see them.

That’s not a door, it’s a hatch. Maybe they called them that because they’re harder to get through, like a chick trying to hatch out of an egg?

Observing things from the bridge.

That’s not a window, it’s a port. And I have no ideas as to why they might have called it that.

There probably used to be binoculars in there.
